The FLAG area is in two parts - the Furness Line between Carnforth and Lancaster and Barrow in Furness circling Morecambe Bay, and the Cumbria Coast Line from Barrow around the scenic coastline to reach Carlisle in the north of Cumbria.

Eleven trains per day on the Furness Line travel between Barrow and Manchester Airport using new Class 195 3-coach sets. Other trains travel between Barrow and Preston or Lancaster using the West Coast Mainline south from Carnforth.
